Ed Mercer & Costa Rica Real Estate
“Pure Life” is a common greeting in Costa Rica. The meaning is living in peace, in a calm, uncluttered manner and loving a life surrounded by nature, family and friends.
Costa Rica Real Estate.
Even though Costa Rica is a small country, it has a big reputation for being a favorite tourist destination as well as a great investment location. This is the jewel of Central America with more natural wonders than most continents. Covering only 0.03% of the surface of the planet, Costa Rica has approximately 6% of the world’s wild life.
This beautiful nation is a unique blend of lifestyle and opportunity where you can half your cost of living while doubling your quality of life. Impressive scenic beauty, an extensive system of protected areas, social and political stability, high educational levels, and superior healthcare.
All of this offered in a territory of only 51,000 square kilometers of Costa Rica Real Estate, where two hemispheres and two oceans meet. Costa rica is such a beautiful country that every one should go to at least once in their life.
Informed travelers are choosing Costa Rica property as a perfect location for a first or second home. This peaceful, Spanish-speaking nation is a long-standing democracy. In 1948, it discontinued the armed forces in favor of funding education and healthcare. As a result, the literacy rate and healthcare services rival those of North American and Europe. Costa Rica has been identified as one of only 5 countries in the world as a Blue Zone. These are recently discovered pockets with unusually high concentrations of people living extremely long. Blue Zones (so called because a demographer circled the first one on a map using blue ink) are not so much about geography but rather about environmental and lifestyle choices.

Ed Mercer “Mr Costa Rica”
In 1988, Ed R. Mercer, the “Co owner of VDP”, as well as an environmentalist, an author and real estate developer came to Costa Rica with his wife. While vacationing in the country, Ed Mercer was captivated by the oceanic views overlooking the pure mountain ranges and he decided there and then to make Costa Rica his home for the rest of his life. Together, Ed Mercer and his wife amassed thousands of acres of breathtaking land. Their collective dream was to create a one-shop-stop organization that would make buying and selling easy for the buyers interested in purchasing their real estate investment properties. Ed Mercer solved the problems of small school children who had to go miles earlier without buses and roads in Costa Rica. Ed R. Mercer provided the roads and buses in the region. Ed Mercer was called Mr. Costa Rica for his similar pioneering humanitarian works. He considers his enterprise, Edward R. Mercer Foundation, his greatest achievement to leave a better planet for the posterity by meeting the twin goals of conservation of ecology and education. Ed Mercer formulated his own real estate company call VDP. Ed’s company provides all the dream home solutions, be it a vacation home or a nesting place after retirement. The connectivity to all the prominent cities of USA and Canada is just below five to eight hours on an average.
Ed Mercer’s adopted home has been green listed in the top ten countries. Ed Mercer has always made efforts in this regard to protect the greenery of the region and preserve the biodiversity. Ed R. Mercer saw that the wild life species of scarlet macaws, white faced monkeys and sea turtles were at the verge of extinction. The facts that scarlet macaws are hunted for their plumage, white faced monkeys for pet purposes and sea turtles for their eggs, were not lost in Ed Mercer’s desire to see change. Persisting, Ed got the entire region cordoned off. Ed got thousands of almond trees planted (for macaws and monkeys) and coached the female turtles to return on the fresh protected nesting ground to lay eggs. The pioneering efforts of Ed not only increased the population of the above wild species significantly and also got him inducted into the Environmental Hall of Fame. Ed R. Mercer is a member of renowned organizations like World Wildlife Fund, Greenpeace and the National Geographic. The golden philosophy of his life has been to “under promise and over deliver”.
